Hortensio Félix Parvacino y Arteaga made his religious profession in the Trinitarian house in Salamanca on this day in 1600.  El Greco painted and signed (Domenikos Theotokopoulos) his portrait ca. 1609.  It is oil on canvas, measuring 112 x 86 cm, and now hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA.  One of the four sonnets which Paravicino dedicated to El Greco makes reference to this portrait, claiming that the portrait surpassed reality and that it was indeed a better home for his soul than his own body.  After his death on 12 December 1633, another portrait of him done by El Greco was found in his room.
