On this day in 1988, just before the close of the Marian Year, John Paul II canonized Simon de Rojas.

On this day in 1629, when the mortal remains of Simon de Rojas were exhumed, they were found to be incorrupt.  Unfortunately, in the year 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, his remains were profaned and they disappeared.

On this day in in the year 1561, the Spanish reformer of the Trinitarian Order, John Baptist of the Conception (Juan García López), was born to Marcos García Xixón and Isabel López Rico – the fifth of their eight children –  at Almodóvar del Campo, a small town of some 4000 inhabitants in La Mancha which today is in the province of Ciudad Real.
