Solemnity of Our Lady of Good Remedy, principal patroness of the Trinitarian Order.

On this day in 1624, the Papal Nuncio in Spain ordered the beginning of the process of canonization for Simon de Rojas.  This occurred only a little more than a week after his death on 29 September.

Hortensio Félix Paravicino y Arteaga – Spanish Trinitarian preacher and poet – was born in Madrid on this day in the year 1580.  His father’s family was from Como in northern Italy, while his mother’s family was from Vizcaya in the Basque region of Spain.  He had at least one brother, Francisco.

Marc Criado was martyred in las Alpujarras (Spain) on this day in the year 1569.  He was 47 years old  and had been sent by his Minister Provincial to the missions of Gaudix and Almería .

Simon de Rojas was born in Valladolid (Spain), to Gregorio Ruíz de Navamuel and Constanza de Rojas – the third of their five children – on this day in the year 1552.

Having entered the Trinitarian house of his hometown of Valladolid at a very early age and having completed the year of Novitiate, Simon de Rojas made his religious profession there on this day in the year 1572.

On this day in 2007, in St. Peter’s Square, Cardinal José Savaira Martins, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, presided at the Eucharist and read the Decree of Benedict XVI beatifying 498 martyrs of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), among which are numbered Trinitarian Fr. Mariano de San José and his 9 Companions (Fr. José de Jesús y María, Fr. Prudencio de la Cruz, Fr. Segundo de Santa Teresa, Fr. Juan de Jesús y María, Fr. Luis de San Miguel de los Santos, Fr. Melchor del Espiritu Santo, Fr. Santiago de Jesús, Br. Juan de la Virgen de Castellar, Sr. Francisca de la Encarnación) as well as Álvaro Santos Cejudo Moreno, listed by the Trinitarians as a benefactor of  the Order.
