Trinitarian Laity
|
|
From the very beginning, the laity was connected to the life and work of the Trinitarian Order. The laity as “members of the house of the Holy Trinity” participated in the mission of the Order, forming associations and confraternities which lived its spirituality and helped in the charitable works, principally in the ransom of captives, with their resources and personal participation. Throughout the centuries the laity has developed the quality and intensity of its apostolic commitment in the context of the Trinitarian Family. Today, eight centuries after its foundation, the Trinitarian Family has rediscovered its roots as a result of Vatican II. In virtue of their baptism and as disciples of John de Matha, the Trinitarian laity has its experience of the Holy Trinity and of Christ the Redeemer together with the poor, the captive, the marginalized of today’s world, working along with the communities of Trinitarian Brothers and Sisters in the works of the apostolate. The life and identity of the Trinitarian laity are defined by the Plan of Life of the Trinitarian Laity approved in 1989 and recently confirmed by the Holy See. The different groups of associate, confraternity and Third Order members around the world are organized by regions and countries. They are represented in the International Council of the Trinitarian Laity, composed of eight members, delegates from Canada, Central and South America, France, Italy, Madagascar, Spain and the United States.
